American Airlines is reducing the miles required for American Airlines AAdvantage members to redeem with it’s partner JAL from Vancouver to Tokyo. The normal miles required for redemption is 50,000 miles roundtrip in Coach and 100,000 miles roundtrip in Business. The promotion is valid from November 1st – February 29th, 2012 and American is requiring only 30,000 miles in Coach and 50,000miles in Business. That’s a significant saving in the number of miles required – 40% discount in Coach and 50% discount in Business.

We realize most of you are not in Vancouver — the simplest way to benefit from this promotion is to buy a plane ticket to Vancouver to take advantage. Airlines tickets from the West Coast is running at about $300 while East Coast about $450. But relative to total cost, this cash + mileage option is significantly less than a straight award redemption or buying the ticket to Tokyo. (This is also true for San Francisco)
