I put sfo to amm and found $683 on Turkish for same dates. Same for lax to amm.
Both cities are longer distance and cheaper. You are not showing us the best deals.
Also you should list when are good times to go. You throw a bunch of great deals to Europe but lot of them are for winter. Good deal compared to what?
@Credit –
1) distance has nothing to do with how fares are priced.
2) whats cheap in sfo/lax isn’t a refection on dallas.
3) are you advocating someone in dallas or anywhere go to sfo/lax to save $3? because its cheaper there?
4) dfw – amm at $696 is a good price and is a $70 price drop from last month
5) as for EU fares – winter is the cheapest season to go, that’s why they are cheap.
6) if you don’t feel that we are providing value, then why are you spending so much time on the site as you are a prolific poster of comments
No. But by just posting the deal from Dallas you might give the wrong impression that other cities are not on sale.
There is a difference between good value and low price. You understand that and that’s why you do put up summer fares to Europe as disclaimer sometimes. To get a good value you should
1) show a price history of fares Between the city pairs. In particular I want to compare the price in the same month a year ago. To be fair three are a lot of good deals currently because of low oil prices. Whether a good deal is because you found that diamond in the rough or just because everything is cheap in this season anyway or prices are low because of other factors etc.
2) the photos you put should reflect the season of the deal. Don’t put a beach photo for a winter sale.
3) finally you should also put a section about cost of living at the destination. A good deal to Switzerland and a good deal to Bangkok are not the same. You will spend a lot of money after 10 days at one place instead of the other. Can we quantify how much? I want to be able to decide between the two. This is of course subjective for each person.
All this can be done by the reader with research but you are already putting in effort for each deal you post anyway. Why not add some more sections.
3) you do add value. If this was not a free webite I wouldn’t spend time here. And since it’s a free website you don’t need to listen to anything I say. I am prolific poster? Haha. No. But I have noticed I have a knack to get under people’s skin whether I mean or not. Which might explain your exasperated response.
Keep up the good work. And don’t mind me when I come back tomorrow.
@Credit – historic pricing is hard – requires a lot of money to store that much data, which we can’t afford. and unless we change business model and/or become more aggressive with monetization, don’t see it happening. we are at best break even as a business. so yeah, you said we sold out soul to push credit cards, but without it, we probably have to drop coverage for cities with less deals on a daily basis. it cost us the same to support a city like NYC or SFO with 2+ deal/average as a city like PDX which is VERY VERY VERY hard for us.
as for photos, we can spend more time on flickr tooling for better pics or do this. we opt for this
as for cost of destination – you said it yourself, subjective. we like hard quantifiable things – thats why we have a cpm for each deal. zurich might be more expensive, but i go to bangkok and eat at gaggan or nahm versus say McDs in Zurich, guess which is more expensive?
we dont take ourselves seriously. this is for fun, when its no longer fun for us, the site will just switch to black.
