It’s been a while since we found a deal to Asuncion. Since American re-launched service to Asuncion from Miami, it’s something we may be able to count on with some regularity.

Asuncion is on the off beaten tourist path, but worth the visit before more tourists find it. If ever?

• ITA will price this as $493. We tried to book this itinerary through a few sites and CheapOair was the best at $427.

If you want maximum miles, pick the TAM itinerary as only intra-Brazil flights are 50% and rest are 100% mileage when crediting to American. However, if you have a long layover in Brazil and would like to leave the airport, it would incur extra visa fees whereas on the LAN itinerary, there are no visa fees unless you route via Brazil or Argentina.
