Easy way to check Visa Requirements for International Travel

One of our team members is about to embark on a trip to Southeast Asia, visiting Vietnam, Singapore, the Philippines and China. The challenge with international travel is whether or not a visa is required to enter the country. While it is pretty easy for American citizens to check whether or not a visa is required through the US State Department, if you are a non-American living in the US, information is not as readily available.

We generally hate the Delta.com website for searching for airfare or award seats, but they do make the TIMATIC Visa Database available for everyone to check visa requirements. TIMATIC is the database all airline check-in staff use globally to ensure that you have the proper documentation for international travel. If you have up coming travel and need a quick way to check to see whether or not you need a visa, go to Delta.com’s Timatic Visa Database to check — just scroll to the middle of the page to enter your info.

[Update @ 1/13/2013 @ 11:00PM – Delta seems to have changed their website. You can get the same information at the Star Alliance websiteTimatic Visa Check @ Star Alliance]

Thanks. This is very useful. I found a glitch. I hold a HK passport, visiting China from New York for a tourist trip and the result is I need a VISA. That is incorrect!

@Stella, we never had an issue with Timatic. However, if you say you are an US resident with a HK passport, it says Visa required. However, if you just say you are a HK passport holder and not US resident, it says no visa is required. Since we do not have a HK passport, no idea which is true.

Similar to this tool but with a some more information, is the IATA Travel Centre. Besides Visa and health regulations, it has info regarding customs, currency and airport.

You can also find the search engine/database on another page on the Delta website.
