United: Los Angeles / San Francisco – Tokyo, Japan. Starting $436 (Basic Economy) / $596 (Regular Economy). Roundtrip, including all Taxes

A good sale for nonstop service to Tokyo. This is similar in pricing to ZIPAir, the low cost carrier to/from Japan. However, this is a better deal with ONE checked bag and normal size carry-on included even for basic economy fares. Further, should you run into irregular operations, United and its partner ANA will be able to get you to your destination faster as they have more flights

United’s $596 (Los Angeles) /  $747 (San Francisco) fare is a regular economy fare with TWO checked bags , normal size carry-on and advanced seat assignment

United also has a $436 (Los Angeles) / $587 (San Francisco) fare, but it is a Basic Economy fare. These Basic Economy fares:

  • DO NOT allow for advance seat assignments
  • DO NOT include checked bags beyond the 1st bag. The second bag is $100 each way
  • DO NOT allow for changes
  • DO NOT allow for cancellations – so if you cancel after the 24 hour risk free period, the Basic Economy version will have no value for future purchase
  • Most online travel agencies are not properly displaying these fares with United as BASIC
