We don’t normally post deals with Mainland Chinese airlines because we always there there are better options. However, we also have never seen Ulaanbaatar from the US for under $1k. The normal option for getting to Mongolia on the cheap use to be:

• Buy cheap ticket to Beijing or Seoul and use either miles with either a Star or SkyTeam airline and fly Air China or Korean Air
• Use miles with either a Star or SkyTeam airline to fly from the US
• Buy cheap ticket to Beijing and then another ticket with MIAT or Air China to Ulaanbaatar

Hainan is a pretty good Mainland Chinese Airline. Mongolia won’t be super cold in September or October. After that, probably best for those who enjoy the cold.

ITA will price this at $813, using those dates on Orbitz should reprice to $787

Here are some practical travel tips to Mongolia.
