Earn 5x Cashback (and Points) With the Chase Freedom Card

[disclose]

Another calendar quarter has passed us by and that means a new Chase Freedom Credit Card category is upon us. We like this month’s category as it’s for grocery stores and drug stores.

Earning extra cash and points while paying for things we normally would anyways is a no-brainer. Spend within the categories and you can earn 5% cash back on up to $1500; after $1500 you’ll still earn 1%.

While the Freedom card is classified as a cash back card, you can turn it into a points/rewards card if you hold a Chase Sapphire card — either the Preferred or Reserve. Your Freedom cash back can be converted into Chase Ultimate Rewards (UR) points — even those two cards won’t be able to get you 5x points on any purchases.

The Freedom card is just OK by itself but it becomes more valuable for us when converting the cashback to UR points — check out some of the uses for UR points here. Remember, using points is still the cheapest way to travel.
