[FARE GONE] Air China – $398: San Francisco / San Jose / New York – Tokyo / Seoul / Hong Kong. Roundtrip, including all Taxes

Air China is running a weekend promotion that is scheduled to run from July 22nd – 24th. However, it is live on their site now. For about $398, you can fly between:

  • San Francisco [SFO]
  • San Jose [SJC]
  • New York [JFK]

and

  • Tokyo [NRT]
  • Seoul [ICN]
  • Hong Kong [HKG]

As you all know, we are not big fans of Mainland Chinese airlines. We think transiting in China is not the most efficient process. That said, this is cheap. If you are planning on buying this, please use a credit card with no foreign exchange fees – we believe Air China process the payment in China and some credit cards will charge a f/x fee even thought the payment is in US Dollars due to the fact that it isn’t process in the US.

Seems like a lot of itineraries will have long layovers in Beijing. American passport holders can transit without a visa in Beijing for up to 72 hours. So enjoy that layover – go for some Peking duck.

While Hong Kong is cheap, we think you be better off paying a bit extra and fly the nonstop option for $488 available on United.

Update 7/22/2016 @ 6:40AM Eastern – still some availability left.

Update 7/23/2016 @ 1:45PM Eastern – while the Air China flexible calendar still show availability, we are calling this fare gone. The site craps out at the payment screen and there doesn’t seem to be any resolution by Air China. Sorry for the frustration — putting up this deal was more trouble than its worth. Our dislike for Mainland Chinese airline continues.

@GC = Air China is NOT a Delta partner. China Air is a Delta partner. Two different airlines.

Has anyone been able to actually buy a ticket at this price? I’ve tried to get SFO to Tokyo many times now (with various combinations of dates), fill in all the passenger info, then click “Continue” and get an error saying either they cannot confirm the flights or they are not available.

  • T 8 years ago Reply

even though site shows avail, everytime I go through all the info, it spits out a generic error saying there are no avail seats. Refresh page, come back to and it lists the same flights/times as avail. Local office said they are having website issues and trying to fix.

Getting the same issues as mentioned above. Extremely frustrating to get to the third page, enter in all your info and then get hit with the Generic error. Waste of time.

Have not been able to buy the ticket yet. Website shows that no seats are available on the flights selected. I called their call center and they say they cannot offer the fares offered online.

I spent 5 hours today trying to book JFK-NRT. I was always able to get all the way through the purchase screen and then received a payment error. I tried many different credit cards, but with no success. Not impressed.
