We recently flew Wow to London in FEBRUARY, so we needed warmer clothing (hats, gloves, scarves, etc) and all of us just took the max weight in backpacks. The trick is to wear a lot and put things like chargers, cameras, phones in your coat pockets and after they weigh your bags, you can take layers off and stuff it back into your backpack. We also used those vacuum travel bags to fit more.
