Earlier today, we first reported the American attack fares to Hong Kong, Shanghai and Seoul for between $597 and $633 from Newark, Houston and Cleveland. Kai tweet’ed us that if you open jaw the itinerary — fly into one city and out of another, it can be had for as low as $472. For example, fly into Hong Kong and out of Shanghai. With an open jaw itinerary, you would need to make your own way between those two cities.

We just use Hong Kong & another city as an example. You can do Shanghai and Seoul for example. If you do Shanghai and your stay is under 72 hours, you do not need to get a Chinese Visa since you will be transiting to a 3rd country — in this case, either Hong Kong or South Korea.

We priced the following:

• Hong Kong + Shanghai for $470ish
• Hong Kong + Seoul for $520ish

You can use British Airways Avios between Shanghai and Hong Kong for 7,500 points. Hong Kong and Seoul is 10,000 British Airways Avios. Between Shanghai and Seoul, you would need either United or Delta miles. If you don’t have miles, use Skyscanner.net to search for low cost carrier options — we know for example that with the low cost carrier Spring between Shanghai and Hong Kong, it is often under $100 one-way.

We also selected +/- 2 days to search for best possibilities. On the Advanced Routing Code fields, we use “aa aa” to tell ITA to search for only single connection itineraries.

 Play around with the dates to see if it price around this. If it is a lot higher, it probably means your dates are not available.
