This does not meet our 6 cents per mile criterion — just a cheap fare to Milan for Winter, 2016 travel. Getting around Italy from Milan is cheap and easy via the train. For example, it is only about 2 hours away and 25 euros each way to Florence.
As an added bonus, unlike other deals to Milan which fly into MXP (further out from town), airberlin flies into Linate (LIN), which is closer to the city.

I suggest you rethink your 6 cpm threshold for Europe.
Considering that most of Europe are within 8K miles R/T from NYC, your 6 cpm threshold translates to about $480 for a R/T ticket.
A simple look at http://www.kayak.com/explore/NYC/?where=Europe will easily convince anyone that $480 will probably buy one a Norwegian Air Shuttle (DY) ticket and rarely on a US or European mainline carrier (especially those JVs with immunity).
Sticking to 6 cpm on these other airlines probably means we are waiting for a mistake fare 🙂
Like other discount carriers, airberlin charges a hefty fee to reserve a seat.
